Chrono24 seller fees

Chrono24 is not eBay with a different logo. The seller fee structure differs, the buyer's side differs, and the two are easy to blend into one number that is wrong.

How to model it correctly

  1. Start from what the buyer actually pays. On some listings that is the asking price; on others there are buyer-side costs on top. Only the amount that reaches you matters for your fee.
  2. Apply your seller fee to the right base. Put in the percentage you actually agreed, from your own account, not a figure from a forum post. The rate depends on your listing arrangement.
  3. Then subtract the costs you carried to get the watch to the buyer: shipping, insurance, any authentication or service work.
  4. Compare against landed cost, not against the asking price. The gap between asking price and what you paid is not profit.

Worked example

The percentages below are examples only. Use the rate from your own Chrono24 account.

LineAmount
Buyer pays8,500.00
Seller fee at an example 6.5 percent552.50
Insured shipping you paid85.00
Net proceeds to you7,862.50
Your landed cost7,100.00
Margin762.50
Margin on landed cost10.7%

Why dealers get this wrong

Two reasons. First, quoting margin against the sale price rather than against what they put in, which makes a thin deal look fat. Second, forgetting that a watch bought at auction carries a buyer's premium, so the landed cost is higher than the hammer price they remember.

Consignment is a different calculation

If the watch is not yours, your basis is not the purchase price, because you did not buy it. Your share is the consignment percentage of net, and the consignor's amount is a separate number. Blending the two into one margin line is how books go wrong. Flip Ledger keeps them apart on purpose.

Run these numbers on the listing you are looking at

Flip Ledger does this arithmetic in the eBay or Chrono24 page you already have open, using your own rate tables. The free tier is a complete tool, permanently: landed cost, the fee stack, net proceeds, margin and the consignment split, with no account and nothing limited by time or by count.
